Fencers Perform Well Locally, Regionally, and Internationally
BFC was proud to send several of our youth and cadet foil and epee fencers to the Capitol Clash RYC hosted by our neighboring division at the Gaylord Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland. BFC was well represented by 14 fencers in 10 different events.
Congratulations to Derek Chu who finished 13th in a field of 154 in the Y14 Men’s foil. Congratulations to Shenzhi Shi also for his 10th place finish of 104 Cadet Men’s foil fencers. Representing BFC in the Cadet Men’s Epee events were Yixuan Pei and Miles Johnson who finished 14th and 16th respectively in a field of 105. Congratulations to them both.
Atop the podium at the Capitol Clash were Kiesse Nanor and Karina Wang. Kiesse placed 6th in a field of 72 earning her E2016 rating during the Women’s Y12 foil event. A special congratulations goes to Karina Wang who placed 1st of 95 in the Y14 Women’s foil event and who also upped her B rating from a 2015 to a 2016 rating.
On the local front, Russell Nesbitt finished tied for third in Epee and Victor Shi finished tied for third in Foil in our BFC-Timonium Heart E & Under tournament, earning their E2016 ratings. Thomas Lu finished fifth, Bowen Jiang sixth and Giacomo Cascello finished seventh.
Finally, on the international front, we congratulate Sophia Mandour on her outstanding performance in the European Cadet Circuit event held in Pisa, Italy. Sophia represented the United States as a part of the USA Cadet Women’s Foil team. She placed 15 of 127 fencers and was the 6th highest finishing USA participant. This success follows closely Sophia's top eight finish at the Division I Women's foil North American Cup tournament in St. Louis where she knocked out the top seed in an early DE and earned her A2016.
Congratulations to all of the BFC fencers on their hard work and outstanding performances!
